My name is Julia (or Jules whatever you prefer). I have a love and appreciation for natural materials – especially shells, sea glass or anything weird that washes up on the Newcastle beaches. I thoroughly enjoy making layouts or spreads with these materials and using pattern and repetition to give them a sense of appreciation, I then use them as my ‘illustrations’, I guess, in my graphics.

Who inspires you as a designer?

Marian Bantjes, Semblence by Megan and Andy
Goldsworthy – all of these designers use similar concepts of pattern, isolation or repetition to highlight the beauty in nature.

Describe your creative process in one sentence.

Beachcomb, find something interesting, find hundreds of them, lay them out, photo graph them, put them into Adobe, start messing around until an odd pattern or shape seems cool.

What are your go-to fonts?

Arial. Unless it is a heading, I would use something like Bebas, Vogue or Shine
